Ink for Printing Apparel Tags
ICN offers two types of ink for apparel tag and label printing: Sapphire SB and Sapphire MB series. As all Sapphire series, the SB and MB tagless garment inks are non-toxic, rated toy-safe, California Proposition 65 compliant and certified by Bureau Veritas to not contain heavy metals and restricted phthalates - which makes the ink CPSIA'08 compliant. The SB ink is also certified to not contain azo dyes, PVC and other resticted substrates as well as NAMSA certified to cause zero skin irritation.
Garment tags printed with the Sapphire series tagless garment ink withstand 50 industrial washes, are stretchable and soft hand, allow changing graphics on-demand, provide control over see-through, enable date and lot coding and eliminate the need to preorder and store label inventory. The comparison to heat transfer labels shows that tagless pad printing is a much more cost-effective, fast and flexible technology for tagless apparel manufacturers and decorators or any size.
For the last two years, Inkcups Now textile specialists have been perfecting our tag and label printing technology for the tagless garment market. We offer a turn-key solution for Tagless Printing and are ready to help you jump start a tag printing operation within your company, whether large or small.
Technical assistance is available in English and Spanish.
Benefits of Tag & Label Printing:
- The printed apparel tags are soft to the touch (have "soft hand")
- The printed tag is much cheaper than thermal transfer label
- Tag and label printing gives you the flexibility to modify the image in-house any time
- The inks cure by air, enabling you to stack the garments right after they are printed
- With the SB ink, you can print fine fonts - as small as, for instance, size 4pt

Types of Apparel
Both MB and SB ink series work great for cotton, nylon, flock and ribbed textiles. Among the apparel that you can print tags on are: t-shirts, underwear (boxers, bras, tops, socks), activewear (sweatshirts, sweatpants) and more. We tested many types of fabrics/garments and will provide advice on how to adjust such variables as plate depth, thinner speed, print pad hardness and machine cycle to achieve the desired opacity and durability.
Ink for Stretchy Fabrics - the SB Series
The SB series ink for apparel tags is a 1- or 2-component pad printing ink. It is recommended for stretchy fabrics and synthetics as it has superior elasticity. It also has improved resistance to the solvents used in dry cleaning.
Like all Sapphire series, SB complies with European EN 71 Toy Safety standard and California Proposition 65 (is free of heavy metals).
Ink for Dark Fabrics - the MB Series
The MB series ink for tagless apparel is high gloss 2-component pad printing ink. It is recommended for dark fabrics as it has superior opacity.
In addition to complying with European EN 71 Toy Safety standard and California Proposition 65, the MB is certified as medical grade ink (class VI certified).
