Decorating cylindrical products is not always straightforward. From handled drinkware to irregular shapes, many traditional printing methods fall short. Here is how high throw technology, powered by the Inkcups Helix® High Throw, solves some of the most common challenges.
We’ve compiled a list of problems that we’ve heard from our customers, at trade shows, and on the production floor that were in desperate need of a solution and now have it thanks to the Helix® High Throw.
Problem: I need true 360° printing on handled drinkware
270° coverage is not enough and leaves an incomplete look.

Solution:
The Inkcups Helix® High Throw enables full 360° printing on handled drinkware.*
How it works:
Many handled tumblers feature removable handles. Once removed, short welded posts remain on the vessel surface. Thanks to the increased distance between the printhead and the product, High Throw technology can print cleanly over these posts without sacrificing quality.
After printing, the handle can be reattached, resulting in a seamless, full-wrap design.
Traditional printing methods often struggle to decorate around or beneath handles, leading to visible gaps or inconsistent results.
*Handle must be removable. The Helix® High Throw prints over posts.
Problem: Print quality drops on stepped or contoured vessels
The bottom portion of the product often appears lower in resolution or shows over spray.

Solution:
The Helix® High Throw delivers consistent, high-resolution output across the entire surface.
Why it matters:
Conventional cylindrical inkjet printers operate with the printhead positioned very close to the object. This limits their ability to handle variations in height, such as steps or aggressive tapers.
High Throw technology is designed specifically to handle these variations, maintaining image quality even when printing across uneven or complex geometries.
Problem: I need flexibility across a wide range of product diameters

Solution:
The Helix® High Throw supports a broad diameter range, from smaller bottles to large-format items.
Capabilities:
- Prints on diameters from 2.36 inches to 7.09 inches (60 mm to 180 mm)
- Accommodates products as large as mini kegs and as small as standard water bottles
This flexibility allows brands to expand product offerings without investing in multiple machines.
Problem: I want to print on more than just drinkware

Solution:
The Helix® High Throw is built for versatility beyond traditional drinkware applications.
Expanded applications include:
- Dog bowls
- Plant pots
- Sports equipment such as footballs
- And more
Using UV digital ink, these items can be decorated with vibrant, durable graphics suitable for a wide range of industries.
