1. Why does not my ink cup always doctor well when I first start printing?
Trapped vapor pressure causes a flood of ink around the ring. Before starting the machine, make sure you open the cup vent plug slightly so that the air can escape.
ICN ink cups are made of high quality anodized aluminum. Unlike plastic cups, our cups are very durable. And they are specifically designed for ease of cleaning.
Because other manufacturers provide ink cups with exposed magnets that are coated with nickel. The nickel coating eventually fails and breaks off in flakes which scratch the plate. We highly recommend using covered (enclosed) magnets. Enclosed magnets are incorporated in all ICN ink cups so magnet scratching is not an issue.
Most likely, it is time to replace the ring when you see ink particles on the plate. This may result from a chip or a scratch in the ceramic ring material. However, it also could be caused by a haze over the plate that you cannot get to clear. Do not let the width of the ceramic ring exceed .015".
