The Mimaki UJF-605CII has printed detailed designs like this on several different kinds of metal plates. This process could be adaptable to print on fridge magnets and other metal surfaces.

The primer used, Digibond, allows printing of UV inks on metal surfaces, enabling you to print on just about any kind of metal. Just wipe Digibond on the surface then flash cure it, and the chemical allows the UV inks to adhere to almost any metal surface.
